The Body Scan is a meditation focused on becoming aware of the body in a way that produces deep relaxation. This meditation allows one to explore the sensations of the body in a precise and loving manner. It has successfully been used as part of the Mindfulness Meditation training for lowering blood pressure, relief from chronic pain, and reduction of anxiety. This technique is a pleasant journey from the tops of the toes to the top of the head, inviting the listener not only to relax, but to enter into a deep state of gratitude and grace. With practice, awareness of the body can become more refined and sensations of the body can be observed without judgment or interpretation. Through the practice of awareness, on can create a distancing of the emotional and cognitive dimensions of pain, often leading to change in intensity or in the perception of the discomfort. In this meditation session, the listener is guided through-out the experience. Original piano music was composed specifically for this particular meditation. It is our hope that you practice regularly, with this CD, in order to realize the maximum benefit to your body and mind. Dr. Angela Bowers is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Scottsdale, AZ. She has extensive training not only as a clinician, but also in yoga, hypnosis, and mindfulness meditation. This is her third CD, incorporating breathing and guided imagery. Dr. Mary B. Laney is a naturopathic physician and a licensed acupuncturist.
